Classy hen party ideas. The stylish and sophisticated inspiration for your hen party, bachelorette or bridal shower with some free hens night background and hens night tips.

  1. For the convenience of the bride-to-be, bridal showers are usually held earlier than a bachelorette party. A stag and doe party, also called a "Jack and Jill", "buck and doe" or "hag" (hen + stag) party, is a fundraising party that includes both men and women.
  2. The roots of the hen party tradition in the UK go back further than in the US, says American sociologist Beth Montemurro. There, it is more of a recent phenomenon starting in the 1970s and 1980s as an expression of sexual freedom tied to the sexual revolution of the 1960s.

  3. The best time to have a bachelorette party is about 3-4 weeks before the wedding, allowing time for other wedding details to be completed and to recover from puffiness, etc. before the big day.

  4. Traditionally, the only person who doesn't pay for the bachelorette party is the bride. Especially for an in-town party that's a single night out instead of a weekend away, the bridesmaids and other guests will often chip in to cover the bride's share, as well as cover their own costs.
  5. A hen party or hen night specifically refers (in the UK & Australia) to what is called a "bachelorette party" in the US - there will be drinking, possibly a stripper, certainly some raucous laughter and jokes.

  6. Usually hosted by the bridesmaids or the maid/matron of honour, the bachelorette party is not a gift-giving event in the manner of a bridal shower. Instead, the costs associated with this festivity are typically spread out among the attendants.

  7. Typically, a wedding shower is attended by one or both of the engaged partners and their friends/family and is usually a more casual social gathering that includes cocktails and gifts for the engaged couple, perhaps a speech or two as well.

  8. A bridal shower is a specific type of "wedding shower" which is normally only attended by the bride-to-be and her female guests. Normally some silly traditions and games are carried out and gifts (many of a racy nature) are given to the bride-to-be.

  9. Wedding and bridal showers tend to happen weeks before the planned ceremony.

  10. A bachelorette party is similar in nature to the bridal shower, but with some clear differences. Typically, a bachelorette party will occur somewhat close to the ceremony, usually within 2 weeks prior to exchanging vows. There is also an implied "rowdiness" in the event, as it is usually the "last hoorah" for a bride-to-be, similarly to a bachelor party. Normally all guests will be female, the event will likely happen at night and more than likely won't be rigidly planned.
